Finding Mystique

Ah Mystique, you are so predictable.

I left the lair on my own to hunt down my rogue agent. Obviously I couldn't bring Sky with me. She would probably have terminated Mystique before I could find out the truth. Why did she steal the third Ultron chip? Who is she working for? It is inconceivable that anyone would ever betray me, so there must be some explanation.

As I suspected, Mystique went to the safe house I maintain just outside of Newark, NJ. Various fakes IDs and currencies are stored there. I knew she would need to pick these things up before she could catch a plane to whatever her ultimate destination was. Sure enough, she was there.

"Raven, you should not have paused for a shower," I told her, pulling back the shower curtain.

"Eric! How did you find me?"

"Don't play games. If you didn't want me to find you, you wouldn't have come to this safe house. Now tell me, what is your plan? Why did you take the Ultron chip?"

Mystique smiled as she got out of the shower. She reached out for a towel and wrapped it around her body. Dripping wet, she left the bathroom and headed for the kitchen.

"I am glad you came, Eric," she said with a lacivious smile. The pot of hot water was already boiling. Obviously she was expecting me. "I do have a plan and you are an important part of it," she continued as she made me coffee. "What I have in mind will guarantee our ultimate triumph."

I took a sip from the cup she handed me. It was exactly the way I like it. "Why did you not tell me this before? Why fire that rocket at me?"

"Of course I wasn't shooting at you," she purred, coming around behind my back. Her firm hands gripped my shoulders and began to kneed my muscles. "I was shooting at that robot love doll of yours. She is one with Ultron now. She is the enemy. It was her I was trying to destroy." Mystique's towel fell to the ground.

I stood up and turned around. I reached out for her but missed. Suddenly the room started spinning. I could not focus on anything. My legs started to buckle. I stared in disbelief as Mystique appeared to change shape. That was the last thing I saw before falling to the ground.

Mystique, the Traitor?

We triumphed, of course, in our battle against Ultron. He was destroyed. Such was the only possible outcome. There was one little wrinkle though.

The Ultron Program, his memories and identity, his persona, was encrypted on three different chips. Mystique, for some reason, stole one and fled. She was not following my orders. Why she did this and where she has gone is a mystery. I doubt she knew Sky's plan in advance, so it's unlikely Mystique had this in mind all along.

I have had had problems with Mystique now and again. Though she seems quite loyal and dedicated, every once in a while she seems to be acting on her own agenda. It seems hard to believe. What other agenda than mine could there be?

Koma and his synthoid left the battle before it's conclusion. Normally I would take this as betrayal, however the Sentinel army Sky had reprogrammed to kill humans had started to attack them. Better they flee than damage the Sentinels.

I had Sky send out the Sentinels to destroy and commit mayhem. I also had her send the elite models to attack the X-Men. Heh heh heh.

Sky will now study the Ultron program while I have the Brotherhood repair my base. As for myself, I will track down Mystique. I pray for her sake that she has not betrayed me.
